Radical Romania and Racing League Romania team up to launch the RLR Radical Sprint Cup digital series in iRacing

The first racing competition that starts in 2021 in Romania is a digital one, resulting from the association of the newly-founded Radical Sportscars country dealership and the leading regional sim racing organization.

Bucharest, January 15th: This Sunday marks the beginning of a new series aimed for convergence between the virtual scene and the real thrill of the racetracks. Radical Romania supports the inception of an iRacing initiative launched by Racing League Romania, a structure with more than 10 years of experience in organizing sim racing championships. The new concept bears the name of RLR Radical Sprint Cup.

The season schedule includes 10 sprint events, each comprised of two heats. Over 60 contestants have registered already, fighting for a place on the 30-car grid that gets generous exposure on TV and stream. The Sunday evening show begins with a 10-minute qualifying session, followed by a 40-minute Feature Race with mandatory pitstop. The top 10 finishers are then reversed on the grid for the 25-minute Sprint Race that follows.

There will be an individual classification for drivers that determines the inaugural RLR Radical Sprint Cup champion in May. Sim racers will also be in the fight for separate standings reserved for real life racers and iRacing platform rookies. Radical Romania instructors are also joining the party, being avid sim racers with a history in the RLR environment.

The ”Holy Grail” of transitioning from simulator to real racing also motivates the entire community, as the top 3 in the standings and a random participant will be awarded a chance to shine on Romania's first racing track aboard the Radical SR1. Out of the 4 shootout participants, the skilled winnner will race the SR1 in a round of the national time attack series (ROTAC) with full support from Radical Romania.

”We are delighted to launch the RLR Radical Sprint Cup in winter time, while we are cozy at home, yet buzzing for the return of circuit racing. The level of skill translation between sim racing and real life grows more an more, as the virtual platforms become more and more immersive. Thus, we share the same belief as our Racing League Romania partners that eSports represent a relevant learning path. Enjoy the SR8 battles and keep an eye on those names you see on top!” stated Andrea Fogliazza, General Manager of Radical Romania.

”From Spa-Francorchamps to Sonoma, I’ve enjoyed watching Radical prototypes being pushed to the absolute limit. The lasting excitement made us approach the Radical Romania structure right from day one to develop this virtual bridge together. We are now committed to engage the technical and media resources needed for a spectacular show everytime 30 SR8s roar on the RLR Radical Sprint Cup grid. This is shaping up to be a unique path towards circuit racing, as any Romanian sim racer can register and prove his worth,” added Alexandru Șiclovan, Racing League Romania promoter.

Calendar

The RLR Radical Sprint Cup features 10 rounds, one every two weeks between January 17th and May 24th.
