Platinum

Maintaining his position at the front of the field, Jon Field (ONE Motorsports)) took the lead from the drop of the green flag in race one and despite a caution on lap four to retrieve the car of Wayne Williams (ESSES Racing), he was able to overcome a restart to keep his rivals at bay. However, a gearbox failure forced him to the sidelines and out of the race not long after. Chip Romer (ONE Motorsports) advanced from fourth to second early on as he looked racy, while Louis Schriber (EVR Motorsports) was just ahead of Clint Field (ONE Motorsports)) in fourth. Jim Booth (EVR Motorsports) fell from third to fifth early on as he looked to fight for a podium result. With Jon Field retired, Romer now led until the caution flag flew again. The green flag flew once again with Romer still up front, however Romer lost the lead to Clint Field on the final lap. Field only led one lap, and it was the last lap, to steal the win with Romer in second and Schriber in third. Jim booth was able to advance to finish fourth, with Gregg Gorski (EVR Motorsports) slotting into the fifth position.

Mother Nature was not kind to the championship on Saturday as what looked to be a little rain turned into a deluge prompting a very short race two. With only six laps completed on the flooded racetrack, several laps behind the pace car led to a quick green-flag dash to the finish. Jon Field showed his prowess, turning the fastest lap of the race and scoring the Platinum class victory. Joining him on the podium was Schriber and Clint Field in second and third. With rain falling and drivers working hard to keep it on the track, Romer crossed the line in fourth position, with Jason Plotke (CROWN with APEX) rounding out the top-five.

It was an epic battle up front during race three and there was no love lost between the father-and-son duo of Jon and Clint Field as they went wheel-to-wheel with clean, but hard racing. In the end, it was Jon who was able to find his way to the win and extend his championship point lead. Schriber took advantage of the Fields battling to close the gap to the front duo. Close to the end of the race Schriber slipped by Clint Field for the second step on the podium with Clint coming home third. Booth had one of his best drivers of the weekend to finish fourth, with Romer rounding out the top-five.

PRO 1500

Successfully holding the lead after a pair of caution periods at the start of race one, Jack Yang (Group-A Racing) held Jordan Missig (GRP) behind him while Missig was ahead of Spencer Schmidt (Cameron Racing) and Evan Slater (EVR Motorsports), who were both able to get around Nick d’Orlando (GRP). Another caution period slowed the pace but when it went back to green, it was d’Orlando who moved his way forward, gaining three positions to run second behind Yang. He kept the pressure on and was able to take the lead on the final restart, getting by Yang and driving to the win. Yang after leading the majority of the laps would have to settle for the second step of the podium with Missig in third. Schmidt and Slater would battle in the top-five all race long and eventually finish fourth and fifth respectively.

d’Orlando picked up his second victory of the weekend as he held the point in the PRO 1500 ranks to bring himself into title contention as Slater finished 0.074s behind to stand on the second step of the podium in race two. Missig continued his podium foray with a P3 effort with the Canadian Austin Riley (Racing with Autism) just off the podium in fourth position, while Corey Neveau (Cameron Racing) was fifth.

Yang topped the class in the 17-lap race three as he was the fastest driver in the class and used that to his advantage to score the win. Behind him, Slater and d’Orlando rounded out the podium with the top-three finishing within three seconds of one another. Schmidt was the best of the rest earning a P4 result, while championship hopeful and 2024 multi-time race winner Missig, who pulled double duty on the race weekend competing in INDY NXT as well, finished fifth.

PRO 1340

It was the Jace Bacon (CROWN with APEX) show during race one as he gained five positions to run third with five minutes to go. Returning to the series after a brief hiatus, Bacon ran third behind Suellio Almeida (GRP) and Chris McMurry (CROWN with APEX). Almeida drove to the win as McMurry took advantage of some late race restarts to move into the second position and extend his championship point lead. Bake McGovern (CROWN with APEX) got by Bacon on the final lap to nab the final step of the podium, with Bacon having to settle for fourth position, just ahead of Mike D’Ambrose Sr. (RYNO with Team Stradale).

With his win Friday, Almeida made it two-for-two on the weekend taking his second chequered flag during race two, giving GRP the win in two classes on Saturday. McMurry was back on the podium in second as Bacon found his way to the third and final step on the box. McGovern and Benjamin Blander (RYNO with Team Stradale) rounded out the top five.

Scoring his third race win of the weekend, Almeida capped off a perfect weekend, with Mayer Deonarine (RySpec Racing) making a trip to the podium. McMurry scored his third trip to the box in as many days backing up his second-place finish in the wet Saturday, with another solid result on Sunday. Bacon had his turn at the front through the pitstop cycle but was fourth at the chequered flag, just ahead of his father Seth Bacon (CROWN with APEX) in fifth.

Next up for Radical Cup North America is a trip across the country to the famed Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca over the June 21-23 weekend.

“We had everything this weekend. Rain, wind, cold, and sun, but in the end, we had great racing action in front of a packed house of INDYCAR fans at one of the best tracks that North America has to offer.”
