Brady Clapham’s Pro 1340 title is now tantalizingly close, with the Canadian claiming a hat-trick of wins, while the top championship protagonists in the Platinum class faced challenges as Steve Jenks and David Alban broke through for victories.

Qualifying Results

Platinum

Qualifying was extremely close in the Platinum category. Steve Jenks (Group-A Racing) topped the session with a blistering 1:20.966 lap at an average speed of 112.936 mph, earning the fastest lap in class. He was followed closely by Louis Schriber (JBR) just 0.336s back, and Scott Wagner (JBR) at +0.812s. Points leader Wayne Williams (ONE Motorsports) could only manage fourth, while Chip Romer (ONE Motorsports) rounded out the top-five, showing how tight the front of the Platinum field.

Pro 1500

The Pro 1500 class produced a thrilling qualifying battle, led by rookie Raiden Nicol (PRIMAL Racing), who secured class pole with a 1:23.827 lap at 109.081mph. Valen Venkatesh (Cameron Racing) was just 0.317s behind, with Matt Romer (ONE Motorsports) taking third in class. Jack Yang (Valour Racing) and rookie Spencer Schmidt (Graham Rahal Performance) completed the top-five, separated by only tenths of a second—setting up a competitive racing ahead.

Pro 1340

In the Pro 1340 field, Brady Clapham (Brady Clapham Racing) delivered the standout performance, grabbing class pole with a 1:27.029 lap at 105.068 mph. He led the group, while Kenny Naill (Graham Rahal Performance) followed as the second-quickest in class at 1:31.102, and Dermot Ennis (Ennis Racing) rounded out the top-three. The CROWN with Radical Arizona duo of Blake McGovern and Keith McGovern completed the Pro 1340 leaderboard.

Wheel-To-Wheel Races

Race #1

It was a thrilling 40-minute showdown across all Radical Cup classes in the first wheel-to-wheel race of the weekend. In the Platinum class, Steve Jenks delivered a dominant performance, taking the victory with a best lap of 1:22.484. Finishing second was Louis Schriber, who closed the points gap to Wayne Williams with an inspired drive while nursing a broken wrist. David Alban finished third, while Wayne Williams crucially won out in a great battle with Chip Romer to finish fourth. Platinum driver James Long was the Sunoco Hard Charger for Race #1, in front of his own crowd.

In the Pro 1500 class, it was rookie Raiden Nicol who stole the show, charging to victory and setting the fastest lap of 1:24.114. With another win, Nicol had all but wrapped up the 2025 championship and was still unbeaten on the season. Jack Yang crossed the line second to take Gold honors, just under two seconds back, followed by Matt Romer, who rounded out the podium. Spencer Schmidt impressed, as did rookie Valen Venkatesh, who completed the top-five after a hard-fought battle.

The Pro 1340 division saw Brady Clapham set the class’s fastest lap of 1:27.754 on his way to victory ahead of his championship rivals Ennis and Naill, the trio finishing line astern. For the Canadian Clapham, it meant within two weeks he’d won races in both the Emzone Radical Cup Canada by FEL and the Radical Cup North America series.

It was a competitive first race of the weekend, highlighted by side-by-side action, close finishes, and standout rookie performances that set the tone for the races to come.

Race #2

The second race of the weekend delivered another action-packed 40 minutes of Radical Cup competition. In the Platinum class, Jenks backed up his Race #1 win with another flawless drive, taking the victory and setting the fastest lap of the race at 1:20.897. He was closely pursued by the JBR duo of Alban and Schriber, who finished second and fourth, respectively. Crucially, splitting the pair was Wayne Williams in third to regain important points over Louis Schriber, while Scott Wagner (JBR) completed the top-five after a hard-charging run.

In the Pro 1500 field, Raiden Nicol clinched his 14th win of the season to seal the 2025 Pro 1500 title officially. Setting the fastest lap of 1:23.374, Nicol appeared to be unstoppable. Behind him, the battle for podium positions was intense, with Matt Romer and Schmidt locked in a close fight, finishing second and third in class. For laps on end, it appeared Schmidt had the upper hand into Turn 10 chicane, through the final turn, and down the pit straight, but Romer soaked up the pressure and positioned his car perfectly to fend off each attempt. Rookie Ryan Persing impressed with fourth, in his debut weekend for ONE Motorsports after switching teams from Cameron Racing, while Jack Yang took Gold honors with fifth. It was a tough race for Racing With Autism’s Austin Riley, who made heavy contact with the wall on lap 5. Arul Venkatesh was named the Sunoco Hard Charger for Race #2.

Over in Pro 1340 class, Clapham continued his strong form by claiming the class win and posting the quickest lap of the category at 1:26.232. He was followed to the checkered flag by rookie Dermot Ennis in second, and Kenny Naill, who was relegated to third due to a post-race ten-second penalty. After not being able to attend the previous days, the CROWN with Radical Arizona entries of Keith McGovern and Blake McGovern joined the fray, with Blake unlucky to convert his back of the pack start into a podium finish thanks to the contact from Naill.

Race #3

The final race of the weekend kept fans on the edge of their seats as the Platinum class delivered another intense battle. In a race that featured a mandatory pit stop, David Alban came out on top, securing the overall and class victory after 22 laps, his first career Radical Cup North America win. But the race wasn’t without controversy or heartbreak. Race #1 and #2 winner Steve Jenks initially looked set to make it clean sweep for the weekend, setting the class’s fastest lap at 1:22.158 as he took the early lead, but on lap 7 Chip Romer had his own ideas. Romer led for another six laps until a mechanical failure cruelly took him out of contention. This left Jenks back in the lead but it was soon discovered the Group-A driver had shorted his pitstop. The drama compounded when Jenks attempted to serve his penalty under full course caution conditions, with Race Control soon pointing out it was null and void. At the same time, Louis Schriber had his own drama while the safety car was deployed, with his car almost grinding to a halt on the exit of Turn 7. Numerous cars passed the stricken car as the regulations permit, but once he was back under power, Schriber repositioned himself to the front of the field, which is not permitted. And so while Jenks and Schriber were the first to see the checkered flag, penalties were immediately applied as they crossed the line, elevating David Alban to the win, Wayne Williams to second and Georgia’s own James Long to third.

In the Pro 1500 category, the rookie sensation Raiden Nicol (PRIMAL Racing, #93) celebrated his championship win by claiming another victory and another fastest lap of 1:24.053. He led home fellow rookies Ryan Persing and Valen Venkatesh. The latter also earned the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for Race #3. Spencer Schmidt and Jack Yang rounded out the top-five, all finishing within a handful of seconds after a caution-filled race. Yang’s performance earned him another win in the Gold sub-class for Pro 1500 drivers over 30.

Meanwhile, the Pro 1340 field was once again led by Brady Clapham, who posted the fastest lap at 1:27.524 on his way to his third win of the weekend. Blake McGovern made up for Race 2, finishing an impressive second, while Kenny Naill added to his points haul in third. Keith McGovern was classified fourth with Dermot Ennis fifth.

With Road Atlanta now in the books, competitors shift their focus to Lime Rock Park for the final Radical Cup North America event on the calendar, October 17-18. Champions will be crowned and seasons celebrated at the Night of Champions banquet being held at nearby Spring Hill Vineyards.
