Radical Cup Japan to become 15th Radical Cup worldwide in 2027

In 2027, Radical racing will arrive on some of Japan’s most celebrated circuits as the inaugural Radical Cup Japan becomes the 15th championship in the marque’s global single-make racing network.

The first season is set to bring the sight and sound of the SR3 to Tsukuba Circuit, Sportsland SUGO, Mobility Resort Motegi and Okayama International Circuit, connecting a new grid of Japanese drivers and teams with a Radical racing community that already spans four continents.

Organised by Radical Japan, with technical and operational support from Craft-Bamboo Racing, the provisional calendar begins in May before continuing with rounds in June, July and September. Each event is planned to feature two races, creating an eight-race inaugural season, with a pre-season test day also due to be confirmed.

The championship is the most significant step yet for Radical Japan, which launched as the marque’s official national distributor in 2025. In little more than a year, the team has established the sales, parts and technical support needed to build a lasting presence in the country. A dedicated race series is the natural next stage: giving owners somewhere to compete, prospective drivers a clear route onto the grid and Japan its own place within the wider Radical racing world.

The launch of Radical Cup Japan is the next major step in establishing the brand in the country, and it reflects the quality of the foundations they have built in a short space of time.

Japan becomes the 15th Radical Cup worldwide, strengthening one of motorsport’s leading international single-make racing communities and extending our presence in Asia. It also creates new connections between drivers, teams and owners in Japan and the wider Radical community around the world.”

The grid will be open to the Radical SR3 XXR and eligible SR3 XX models, subject to the championship’s technical and safety requirements, including the specified 1,500cc engine upgrade.

The SR3 needs little introduction within the Radical community. Lightweight, aerodynamically driven and built around the kind of downforce that defines purpose-built prototype racing, it has become the backbone of Radical competition around the world. Its combination of performance, accessibility and close wheel-to-wheel racing makes it a fitting foundation for the new Japanese championship.

Every SR3 is hand-built at Radical’s headquarters in Peterborough, where the company has been designing and manufacturing racing cars since 1997. Radical Cup Japan will begin during the marque’s 30th-anniversary year, adding a new chapter to a story that now includes more than 3,000 cars delivered, a dealer network across more than 20 countries and an expanding international community of owners, drivers and teams.

Before the championship gets under way, two prologue events will offer an early taste of what is to come.

The Radical Japan Exhibition Race at Okayama International Circuit on 3 November 2026 will give drivers the opportunity to experience the proposed race-weekend format, with practice and qualifying followed by two exhibition races.

That will be followed by a Radical Japan Training Day at Mobility Resort Motegi on 12 December 2026. Track sessions and Time Attack running will be combined with professional driver feedback and vehicle data analysis, helping current owners and prospective competitors prepare for the season ahead. Eligible SR3 XXR and SR3 XX models will be able to participate, with rental opportunities also expected to be available through Radical Japan.

Final dates, venues, entry information and sporting regulations for the inaugural season will be announced ahead of the first round in 2027.
