Portland and Sonoma are new venues for the nation’s premier Radical series, however both have strong ties to regional Radical racing. Californian dealer Radical Northwest is based at Sonoma Raceway, while Radical Canada West’s series often races south of the boarder and Portland will double as a round of the local championship. Coupled with the relative proximity to Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club– Radical’s highest volume car dealer in 2018– large grids can be expected at both events.
Recognized as the craft beer capital of the world (with over 60 breweries), having an outstanding food scene and for its hipster vibe, Portland is undoubtedly one of America’s coolest cities. An abundance of natural beauty and mountain peaks surrounds the city, which comes alive during the summer months. Portland International Raceway’s 12-turn, 1.964-mile layout is known for creating passing opportunities and holds the all-time record for the closest road course finishes in IndyCar history.
Held in equal esteem as a ‘true drivers’ track’, the fast and flowing 12-turn, 2.520-mile Sonoma Raceway features more than 160 feet of elevation change. However, perhaps an even greater attraction to Sears Point, as it’s often still referred to, is the surrounding Sonoma County and Napa Valley wine regions. Hundreds of wineries are located within a stone’s throw of the circuit, not to mention world class restaurants, spas and resorts.
Having the two West Coast events scheduled back-to-back allow East Coast teams to cut down on traversing the continent should they wish to, and Radical Northwest has already offered its new service center to teams looking to prepare vehicles between events.
The 2019 Blue Marble Cocktails Radical Cup series commences at Virginia International Raceway supporting Blancpain GT World Challenge, April 26-28, before featuring at the Barber Historics event with HSR, May 17-19. Licensing and Event Registration will open shortly.
