After an action-packed weekend at Road America, Radical Cup North America again joins INDYCAR this weekend for the Grand Prix of Monterey, July 25-27 at the iconic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Round 4 of the 2025 season sees a 28-car entry list which has been bolstered by a number of local drivers looking to impress against the title hopefuls on the challenging 2.238-mile circuit.
Platinum:
Wayne Williams will look for his first win of the season, after salvaging a strong points haul at Road America to remain in the championship lead following a heavy crash in practice. Former class champion, Steve Jenks (Group-A Racing) has closed to just 12 points, while Louis Schriber, who is third in points, arrives with winning momentum from Road America in the #111 JBR entry.
The biggest threat could be former ALMS champ, and reigning Platinum champion, Jon Field who knows the curves and Corkscrew better than most, although One Motorsports teammate and SCCA Runoffs champ Chip Romer is another to look out for, as is JBR’s Scott Wagner. Rookie Dale Dillon will pilot a Graham Rahal Performance entry with Californian Jeff Ramsey competing out of the Cameron Racing camp.
Pro 1500:
Raiden Nicol, who completed a remarkable sweep at Road America to extend his perfect season to nine wins from nine starts, will lead the Pro 1500 field into California. However, he will face stiff competition from 13 other Pro 1500 competitors. The stacked field features eight different race teams, with Sonoma based Cameron Racing with Radical Northwest fielding four Californian drivers with brothers Valen and Arul Venkatesh, Ryan Persing, and Sam McDougall. Persing hopes to emulate older brother Nick’s Laguna performance which won him the 2023 class title, while McDougall– a sim racing star– will be thrown into the real world hotseat for the first time this weekend. Primal Racing enters a trio of competitors with Chris Huhn and young-gun Luke Kendall alongside Nicol in a powerful driver lineup.
Keep an eye out too for Andy Lowe (JBR) from Great Britain, Dennis Kelly from Group-A Racing and Canadian Austin Riley (Racing with Autism), who has found himself on the podium at every event this year. And speaking of spraying champagne, both Matthew Romer (ONE Motorsports) and Spencer Schmidt (Graham Rahal Performance) should be strong following their podium performances at Laguna last year. Veterans Jack Yang from Valour Racing and Mike Anzaldi (RYNO Racing) have also been highly impressive this year, and along with Lowe, Kelly and Huhn will also be competing for top honors in the Gold class.
Pro 1340:
Brady Clapham (RySpec With YD Auto Group) arrives as a rising star and five wins to his name this season, and fresh from winning on the Streets of Toronto in FEL’s Emzone Radical Cup Canada last weekend. However, he’ll have to battle hard to keep that momentum in California, with 2024 class runner up Chris McMurry returning to the fray to represent Crown Racing and Radical Arizona. Teammate Mike Dardin could also be a threat for the win, having last raced at Sebring, while Ennis Racing’s Dermot Ennis will aim to find his way to the podium alongside Graham Rahal Performance’s Kenny Naill.
“The Californians will be hoping to claim the top step of the podium in their home race,” explained Radical Motorsport’s Tom Drewer. “But with competitive fields in all three classes and incredible talent — both veterans and rising stars, it might be tough to stop the drivers with the championship momentum.”
Radical Cup North America has a reputation for close racing, a diverse field of drivers, and an exciting three-race format that includes mandatory pit stops for race three. As championship fights tighten entering the back half of the season, every point at Laguna Seca will be critical.
