Preview: Inaugural Radical Cup Europe to be decided in Barcelona showdown

With four of five rounds completed, RSR’s Marcus Littlewood arrives to Barcelona as the favourite in the hotly contested SR3 class, but the title is far from settled and the 2025 Finecut Radical Cup UK champion will need a clean and consistent weekend to win in Europe.

Littlewood arrives with a slender 37-point lead in both the SR3 class and the outright championship, ahead of the STEP Motorsport pairing of Sebastian Schou and Morten Strømsted. The Danes are regulars in the Radical Cup Scandinavia, with Schou winning the series last year, and have played a consistent and considered card to arrive as genuine title contenders. Radical Norway’s Erlend Juan Olsen sits just 19 points behind and has showed the speed required during the season to prove his stake at victory. All three arrive with a mathematical chance claiming the championship and given the unpredictable nature of the season so far, anything could happen.

RSR’s John Macleod sits in fourth, 20 points adrift, but crucially holds a substantial lead in the Fangio Class for drivers aged over 50. Macleod is a prolific Radical racer with over 15 seasons in the SR3 under his belt and has won the Fangio Class in the Finecut Radical Cup UK for the last three seasons, making him a force to contend with. Radical Netherlands’ Eddie van Dam sits in second place and will surely be keen to challenge.

Andy Lowe returns with 360 Competition and clearly has the speed to challenge for the Fangio race win, but missed rounds in the middle of the season mean he is an outside chance for a championship victory. He was a popular outright race winner at Paul Ricard, and will surely be looking to stand on the top step of the podium.

RSR will also run series regular Paul Denning, who also tasted outright victory in the opening round at Mugello. Denning is a keen racer who has proven his willingness to dice with the fastest and often show them up, and will surely be one to watch.

RJ Motorsport arrives with a mammoth four entries, running SR3s for series regulars Brian Huang, Pascal Bachmann, Lowen Stephens, and Jahid Karim. The international Valour Racing outfit will again run a pair of drivers making dual European and North American campaigns, with Luke Kendall and Jack Yang both finishing their global seasons in Barcelona. The Racestreaming pairing of Jess Frandsen and Diego d’Ambra also make an exciting return.  

The Radical Sweden duo of Peter Gustafson and Filip Svensson arrive with the lead in the SR10 Class, and look set to take the SR10 championship. The turbocharged Radical SR10 is the dominant force in the Radical Cup North America yet is rarer on this side of the Atlantic, but for Barcelona they’ll be joined by American SR10 regular Gregg Gorski, running with 360 Competition. It will be exciting to see how these two high-powered machines put their sheer speed to use on Barcelona’s long straights.

The 2026 Radical World Finals will join the Radical Cup Europe as a dual billing this weekend, with several non-championship drivers entered and looking to stake their claim at becoming a Radical World Champion. For the first time in recent history, the fastest Radical racers from around the world will go head-to-head on the same track, in the same cars, in the same season.

Just two weeks ago, Jonas Axboe won the 2026 Radical Cup North America in a thrilling title decider at the Circuit of The Americas and will compete in Barcelona with Valour Racing. The 2026 Finecut Radical Cup UK will be decided at Donington Park on the following weekend, and both title contenders will compete in Barcelona. The University of Derby’s Gordie Mutch and Valour Racing’s Cian Geraghty are both on the grid, creating the exciting prospect of seeing the fastest Radical racers in the world go head-to-head.

Track activities get underway with two full days of testing on Wednesday and Thursday, before a bumper Friday schedule. Action gets underway at 9am with a one-hour free practice, ahead of the two qualifying sessions at 10:50am and 11:20am. The first of two 50-minute races begins at 2:35pm, with the final championship race going green at 6:45pm. The 2026 Radical Cup Europe champions will be presented that evening at the official championship party in the Creventic hospitality suite.

If that wasn’t enough, the 2026 season will be concluded the following day, when the 30-minute Radical World Final race begins at 9:50am on Saturday morning. This is a non-championship race, but entered competitors in the Radical Cup Europe will have the opportunity to go up against the best and fastest of the global Radical world for the title of Radical World Champion.
