"The Radical Canada East Cup’s seventh season featured strong participation with a championship battle that went down to the very last race. To match the high level of competition, we are making a number of improvements for 2020 which will bring the Radical Canada East Cup more in line with Radical Championships in the USA and around the world” commented Radical Canada East President Robert Burgess.
Starting on May 9th at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, the championship will run five events at four different circuits and finish on October 4th. Each race weekend will consist of practice, qualifying sessions and three races, as well as a test day held the Friday before each event. Due to the extensive track time participants will now also have the option of running just one day or having two drivers share a car to compete in the event.
As has become tradition, the series will commence at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May. The Radical Canada East Cup will then head to Shannonville Motorsport Park in June for the Summer Challenge and to Mont Tremblant in July for the Summer Classic.
New for 2020, the series will then feature at the Calabogie Cup Race Weekend for the penultimate round, where it will star alongside IMSA’s Porsche GT3 Cup and the Canadian Touring Car Series. This flagship August event is expected to be the highlight of the season and will likely draw a number of additional competitors from the United States.
The championship will then return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the CASC Celebration event and season finale. Finishing in October will also allow Canadian drivers to join their US counterparts for the last round of the Blue Marble Radical Cup North America series at Circuit of the Americas with the International 24H Series, November 12-14.
Championship points for the Radical Canada East Cup will be awarded based on the CASC point system. Each driver must also have a valid CASC or equivalent racing license and all participating cars must conform to the Series Rules, which ensures parity amongst the Radicals. The complete rule set can be found on the CASC website: www.casc.on.ca/roadracing_rules
